Activities
We
have no social organization and no television. Guests
are free to enjoy the ranch as they wish. There are dinner
rides, swimming in the creek, hiking and wonderful photographic
opportunities. Evenings are filled with good conversation,
an impromptu sing-along by a campfire, a game of horseshoes
or billiards, star-gazing or an occasional brilliant display
of the Northern lights, if not an awe-inspiring lightning storm.
Trips to enjoy our rich cultural heritage can be arranged to
ghost towns, museums, Indian ceremonials, Yellowstone Park and
rodeos.
Riding:
This is our main activity whether we're working cattle or scenic
riding: six days a week over a scope that ranges from
high alpine lakes and meadows to the foothills and out into
the lower rolling country of our winter ranch. Daily we
offer short and long all-day rides as well as morning and afternoon
rides. Those who want to ride bareback can. Each
guest is welcome to care for his own horse and tack, as well
as help wrangle the horses before breakfast. With over
40 horses to choose from, we can get a good fit for any rider.
We love our country, and sharing it. As Charlie Russell
said," You can see what man made from the seat of an automobile,
but the best way to see what God made is from the back of a
horse." Horses are a warm, wonderful, as well as
necessary, part of our lives; they are honest friends who will
take you for ranch work, spectacular rides, or games of tag.
Fishing:
There is challenging dry fly fishing in the clear, rushing waters
of the Sweet Grass; the Brown trout love the deep, shadowed
pools below the falls. Mountain lakes also are good rainbow
trout fishing while the stocked beaver ponds offer an easier
approach closer to the ranch, and one the kids really enjoy.
Except for the ponds, we encourage catch and release fishing.
